We love this local-to-our-area gem of a river! The Kootenay starts in Kootenay National Park and runs South as it works towards the US border. We will spend 5 relatively relaxed days and 4 nights on the river, meandering our way through the Rocky Mountains, ending our trip near the town of Canal Flats. It is a great, fun whitewater run! It is fast flowing and continuous with mostly rapids of class I and II. At this fall level, it is suitable for beginner and intermediate paddlers, while advanced paddlers will still enjoy the scenery and clear blue water. It is an amazing value trip, as it is both drive-in and drive-out. Kokanee salmon will be running on the river at this time, and we will also have the chance to view fantastic wildlife, from birds to larger mammals and many in betweens!
Access is a short 2.5 hour drive from Calgary. Various travel configurations are available – we can arrange a pick up from Calgary, or you can meet us in British Columbia to join up with the trip. Give us a call or send us an email - we would be happy to chat about what works best for you!
